Our Carob Fruit Syrup originates from Spain, where a small team of farmers carefully collect the Carob pods from the Carob tree and take them to the factory to be broken down. There, the Carob pods are gently heated, broken down and passed through fine filters where it is processed until we are left with a sweet, natural, clear liquid that has a low glycemic index, which, gram per gram, has 41% less sugar than white refined sugar! So it’s great for anyone who wants to control their sugar intake, even diabetics. Our Carob Fruit syrup is then packed up and shipped directly to our factory in Newport, South Wales where it is packed up and dispatched for you all to enjoy.
Nutritionist Linia Patel:
“Diets high in sugar are linked to diabetes, heart disease, weight gain and tooth decay. I am therefore thrilled at the efforts being made by food companies like Clarks It to reduce the sugar content of some of the nations favourite foods like maple syrup.
As a population, we are consuming too much sugar, with the average intake for children being around 15% of their overall total energy intake per day and around 12% for adults. A draft report from the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN) urges a reduction from the current recommendation of 10% of dietary energy intake for 5% for sugar. This is equivalent to 25 grams ( 5 tsp) for women and 35g ( seven teaspoons) for men. Opting for reduced sugar products like Clarks Maple Syrup or Carob syrup will allow consumers to begin to reduce their total intake of sugars in line with new recommendations.”
